A Trip To ‘New York New York’

Posted at February 12th, 2011 | Categorised in Food And Beverage

On my first visit to ‘New York New York’ of 1Borneo Hypermall Kota Kinabalu, I thought : this would be a great place to bring the kids for meals. And I was right. The spacious seating arrangements made our experience very comfortable and delightful. Plus, they also provided us with extra small plates for us to share and enjoy the food together.

The kids were very adventurous with their orders : Iced Ultra Rich Chocolate Velvet (RM8-90), Bloody Eyeballs (I think cherry stuffed inside lychees)(RM8-90), Strawberry Delight (RM8-50) and Lime Lemonade Soda (RM6-50).  We merely tried Iced Lemon Tea (RM6-90). All were finished except for the Lime Lemonade Soda which tasted so acidic that I was afraid to let the kids take more than a sip.

Our favourite at ‘New York, New York’ was Roasted Mushroom Cappuchino – a cream of roasted mushroom with frothed milk and topped with a sprinkle of cocoa powder (RM6-90) was yummy!  We originally ordered the Pumpkin Soup but it was unavailable. The Cappuchino gave us quite a pause. All of us agreed that it was delicious!

We tried the Fish Bites which was made from imported Dory fish that’s commonly found in the waters of New York city (??? emm…). At RM8-50 we got 5 pieces of fish bites and some fries. I wished we didn’t also ordered Freedom Fries with melted cheese and sour Cream (RM8-50). The melted cheese was overpowered by the sour cream and was the least favourite of the food we ate that day.

The Latino Chicken Chop (RM18-90) is described as tender Cuban-style chicken thigh with superb gravy, but I believe we had the chicken breast. Still, it was quite tasty. My picky 7 year old daughter liked it very much, not spicy at all.

We also shared 2 types of pizza – Buffalo Chicken Pizza and Seafood Marinara Pizza (both RM16-90).The first consisted of spicy buffalo chicken, capsicum, onions, mozzarella, Caesar sauce and tomato sauce.  The latter consisted of prawns, mussels, squid, olives, marinara sauce, mozzarella and fresh herbs.  The verdict was mixed on this one – some of us preferred the chicken and some loved the seafood.

It was a hearty meal for us as the food was more than enough to satisfy 2 adults and 4 growing up children.  Overall, ‘New York, New York’ is now in our list of favourite family restaurant.
