Padang Merdeka

Padang-Merdeka Kota Kinabalu

The historic Padang Merdeka has seen many sporting matches and parades during its century-old history, as well as being the site of the historic ceremony marking the formation of Malaysia in 1963. This year (2010) it hosted the first nationwide Malaysia Day celebration in which 16th September has been declared as a Public Holiday.

Hi , I will be visiting Kota Kinabalu , Sabah around the month of August for a college event. We made a plan on doing a event at the Padang Merdeka but it is currently under renovation. Are there any suggestion for me as a traveller for any replacement fields?

You might want to try the Sport Complex in Likas or probably University Malaysia Sabah. UMS has quite a number of fields which are very suitable for any type of event. I’m not sure what kind of event you wish to conduct but you could probably consider Tanjung Aru Beach and Perdana Park as options.
