We already made a posting on State Library at Suria Sabah, so this posting in obviously inevitable. After all we were at the Sabah State Library HQ this morning. We guess it is about time we promote the place, especially to the bookworms and students out there. In case you don’t know yet, Sabah State Library Headquarters (SSLHQ) is located at Jalan Tasik, Off Jalan Maktab Gaya. It’s much bigger than the Suria Library. In fact the building is larger than the former State Library building at Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman. Most of the reading materials are located at the first floor. Unlike in Suria, there is a huge collection of reading materials for you to choose though we wish they could make regular updates of their collection. Some are just too outdated, we think.
SSLHQ is also equipped with FREE Wi-Fi and a number of multimedia references. More than enough seats for you if you wish to have a study group for several hours. There are also cubicles with electrical plug in case you want to use your laptop and surf the internet. Save your $$ paying coffee at Starbucks. If you don’t have any laptop but want to browse the internet, you can do so at the second floor. But you need to make payment at the first floor – Bahagian Perkhidmatan, Rujukan Dan Maklumat. Students can also use the PC or try out more multimedia stuff at Petrosains which are both on the ground floor.
The library is quite empty early in the morning but visitors will start to fill up the empty spaces in the afternoon. During the exam months, it is almost impossible to find a seat after 2 pm, unless you are willing to insert yourself in between groups of teenagers.
Opening Hour: Monday To Friday: 9 am to 9 pm; Saturday and Sunday: 9am to 2 pm; Close on Public Holiday
