The annual World Press Photo exhibition is the best known of World Press Photo‘s activities and is a highlight in the organization’s calendar. With around 100 local exhibitions produced every year, it is the most popular traveling photo event in the world. For 2011, the exhibition was officially opened in Amsterdam in April last year (2011). It can be seen at venues around the globe until end of March 2012 with Kota Kinabalu as its last destination. It is the first time ever that Kota Kinabalu is selected as a venue for the event. Thank you to the organiser, Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the sponsor, TNT Express Worldwide (M) Sdn Bhd for their effort in bringing the event here in Kota Kinabalu. You can check out the World Press Photo exhibition at 1Borneo Hypermall from 27th February till 8th March 2012. Click HERE for more info. Among the works exhibited are those by famous photographers such as Seamus Murphy, Adam Pretty, Mike Hutchings and Steve Cristo. The tour program takes in approximately 100 cities in 45 countries and is still expanding.
The exhibition is a showcase for creativity in photojournalism and a platform for developments in the profession, part of World Press Photo‘s aim at encouraging and stimulating the work of press photographers around the world. The show also attracts a broader public and, because of the wide-ranging focus of the contest, forms an eyewitness record of world events from the previous year. The 2012 exhibition will begin in Amsterdam on 20th April 2012. Check out the event calendar HERE.
